Bikini sluts to sell MEAT (the NZ dream)

I remember watching the BK adverts, you know the ones that have 3 women, each profiled as brilliant, or successful or wealthy – but in each scene they were in bikinis. I wondered what message that was saying to every young girl watching it, that no matter how smart you are, how successful, or how wealthy – to every dribbling meat loving red blooded male you were always ever going to be a slut in a bikini. And what was this exercise in objectifying women to mere slithers of bikini all for? Selling junk food hamburger meat to men whose sexual appetites was manifesting in mouthwatering simultaneous hunger as the advert slow-mo’s over a huge steaming Whopper sold by 3 women who looked like they have never kept a meal down long enough to digest. Human meat to sell animal meat – it’s post-modern mass media lunacy at it’s most cancerous and delightful.

Bikini girls banned from TV
Fast-food chain Burger King has withdrawn two television advertisements deemed sexually exploitative through their "cheesy" use of bikini-clad women. The Advertising Standards Complaints Board, in decisions issued yesterday, found both commercials breached an industry code of practice forbidding the use of sex appeal simply to draw attention to a product.

Bomber:

Perhaps time to do a radical feminist about your own not so latent sexism. Because it sure looks to me like any woman who doesn't conform to your idea of socially appropriate dress and behaviour, it's out with the objectifying and sexualised terms of abuse.

Oh, and nice nice drive-by about "women who looked like they have never kept a meal down long enough to digest." Perhaps you should leave diagnosing eating disorders to people who actually know what the fuck they're talking about, and stop using body size as another may to put women down?

Now who is taking themselves too seriously Craig? I don't think women wearing bikinis are sluts Craig, but the mass media imagery used to sell meat makes and moulds them into the slut imagery, they are open, appealing, easy, spraying each other money shot-esk with water pistols at the end of the advert - that is the imagery they invoke on purpose, calling it the way they spread it doesn't make me sexist, but nice try for your first post of the day.

i fully agree Bomber, i hate how women are portrayed like this especially during kids programmes and prime time tv, what kind of image are young boys going to have towards women as they grow older, we already have a massive problem with domestic and sexual abuse, adds like this one and that horrible primo add with the bikini clad girls on the moonhoppers will just worsen the problems

Slut imagery? Mass media imagery used to sell meat? Fortunately I seem to have missed the pork ads (pun intended) staring Mike King wearing a bikini...

Craig is right about your "women who looked like they have never kept a meal down long enough to digest." call, plenty of women have the same figure as the girls in the Burger King ads, which they get by eating healthily and exercising regularly. By choice even, not because of some imagined patriarchal hobgoblin dreamed up in a women's studies department.
I see enough fatties (men and women) walking around the streets without having to see them on TV as well, don't we have an obesity problem in this country.

Personal I think the ads suck not because they are sexist but because they piss poor, unimaginative lad humour - on par with the Waikato beer ads. But then again I'm not the sort of oily faced fat boffhead who would eat at BK or drink Waikato and the ads aren't aimed at me - which I guess is the whole point.

your a loner booomer. why give yourself that gay nickname in the first place? id hate to see the country you would have us living in if you had your way. your views are frightening. i know a lot of girls who think the ads are funny and in no way feel angst or degraded. why dont u just leave all this whingeing to someone else. u must have a rather sour life worrying about shit all day and forcing yourself to take the non-populated view on issues.

Why does Alt TV perpetuate sexism then bomber???
You are a fucking hypocrite.

Here we go, the ‘you fucking hypocrite bomber’ okay this could be from the perspective of what? Alt Tv plays some music videos that have naked women in them? Hmmmmm and this makes me a hypocrite? Do I have to point out the whole artistic differences here? Women in Bikini whose sole interest is to sell fast food hamburgers, or music videos that have women in Bikini’s – gosh how do I sleep. I suppose my slumber remains undisturbed dear Anonymous caller because one is an advert and one is a music video, artistic expression vs. advertising hardly makes me a hypocrite.

mwahahaha

Justify it how you like, but you use womens bodies to sell your product, music, just as BK uses womens bodies to sell it's product.

Sex sells, as you well know, hypocrite.

Yawn, tell me you have more than ‘you hypocrite’ please as an argument, any philosophical underpinnings at all? What’s next, ‘I know you are I said you are but what am I?”

PS - The mwahahaha was just a bit creepy

Alt TV has Nicky Watson as a presenter...she's a pair of tits on long legs

Riiiiiiight - so this is about the way you see Nicky Watson.

Is there any other way?!...does she have something constructive to add to the Alternative Music scene LOL!! Her presenting style is boring..she's only there for her celebrity status...which is born of the fact she has expensive boobies and dated Mr Watson...and Mr Ridge.

Nicky Watson is the quintessential example of sex sells...certainly on a par with the Burger King ads.

...People in glass houses mate.

I'm genuinely surprised your defending your stance.

And I am genuinely surprised by your shallowness. Let me get this straight, I am a hypocrite for attacking Burger King for their adverts where women are objectified as nothing more than a bikini over and above intellectual achievement, monetary achievement or career achievement BECAUSE Nicky Watson, who had a show on Alt long before Alt was on digital, is on Alt Tv? And this is because she has, what was that charming little term you used, “expensive boobies”. Right – that makes me a hypocrite for agreeing with the Advertising Standards Board?
